Barbara C. Joehl, 93, died at 4:04 a.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Morningside of Godfrey.  Born November 12, 1923 in Godfrey, she was the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Nolan) Schetter. She married Raymond C. Joehl on May 2, 1944 in Alton.  He preceded her in death on August 12, 2003.  Barbara was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.  She worked in food services at Monticello College and had also worked for Western Cartridge Company in East Alton.  She was a Madison County election worker for her local precinct.  In 1982 she retired from Joehl’s Alfalfa Queen Farm. Surviving are 13 children; Eileen (Edwin) Ruckman of Mountain Home, AR, Donald (Marilynn) Joehl of Godfrey, David (Paula) Joehl of Cordova, TN, Raymond (Julia) Joehl of Evanston, IL, Rita (John) Markgraf of St. Charles, IL, Robert (Maureen) Joehl of Carmel, IN, Stephen (Gayle) Joehl of Chesterfield, MO, Brian (Lori) Joehl of Princeton, IL, Tony (Beth) Joehl of Godfrey, Martha (Dan) Schroeder of Godfrey, Gilbert (Brenda) Joehl of Arenzville, IL, Veronica  (Craig) Shaw of Albuquerque, NM, and Elaine (Mark) Edwards of Godfrey. Also surviving are 45 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and one sister, Caroline Witt of Bethalto.  Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Nolan, a son, Maurice Joehl, two grandchildren, Timothy Joehl and Gregory Nolan, two great grandchildren, Matthew Ruckman and Bobby Sims, two brothers, Joseph and Leon Schetter, and four sisters, Ann Heafner, Josephine Tipsword, Elizabeth Ely and Christine Kraushaar. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey where a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017.  Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
