Audrey Ridenhower

Audrey Nona Ridenhower, 92, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Robings Manor in Brighton. Born May 6, 1926 in Independence, Iowa, she was the daughter of Everett and Opal (Battershell) Kessinger. She married William J. Ridenhower Sr. on May 8, 1954 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1991. Mrs. Ridenhower worked for Owens-Illinois Glass as a selector/packer and was also a private duty home health care giver. Audrey was a longtime director of the Altar Guild at Trinity Chapel on State Street and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton and was a life member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. She volunteered at Beverly Farms, the Crisis Food Center, Caravan and for the St. Anthony’s Hospital Auxiliary. In 2008 she was a Women of Distinction. Surviving is a daughter, Nona Lynn Burns (Jim) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, a son, William J. Ridenhower of Brighton, four grandchildren, Aaron Ridenhower (Lisa), Timothy Burns, Todd Burns (Nicole), and Kimberly Lynn Gross (Landon), and four great grandchildren, Degan, Christian, Preston, and Taylor. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Kessinger and three sisters, Sevilla Markham, Bonna R. Smith, and Betty L. Perry. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton. Reverend Cynthia Sever will officiate. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Chapel, The 5A’s Animal Shelter, or the Treehouse Wild Life Center. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
