Arnold E. Gerdt, 81, died at 1:04 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at his home in Godfrey. Born December 14, 1933 in Godfrey, he was the son of Arnold E. and Mamie (Schallenberg) Gerdt. Mr. Gerdt retired from the Olin Corporation as an inspector in 1995. He was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. On February 26, 1955 he married the former Nancy Campbell in Corinth, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2014. Surviving are three sons, Randall “Randy” Gerdt (Shelia Diane) of Granite City, Danny Gerdt of Godfrey, and Gary Gerdt (Mary) of Roxana, three grandchildren, Travis, Jonah, and Hannah Gerdt, two brothers, Alfred Gerdt (Dorothy) of Godfrey and Clarence Gerdt (Martha) of Godfrey, and sister, Irene Bockstruck of Alton. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2015. Reverend Charles Hoekstra will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church.
