Arlin Schaefer

Arlin L. Schaefer, 77, of Prairietown, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at his residence.

He was born on February 7, 1946, in Alton, IL, the son of Arthur and Louise (Dubbelde) Schaefer. Arlin married his high school sweetheart, Sharon K. Engelke, on February 12, 1966, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown.

Following graduation from Edwardsville High School in 1964, Arlin worked as a machinist at Owens Illinois and Shell Oil Refinery. He retired from Owens Illinois in 2001. He was a member of the Prairietown Volunteer Fire Department and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown. He loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was best known for his dry sense of humor and raising the best radishes in the greater Prairietown area. When he wasn’t being an outdoorsman, he enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events.

Along with his wife, Sharon, he is survived by his two children, Michelle (Tim) Goebel and Matt (Nikki) Schaefer; his five grandchildren, Morgan Goebel and fiancé Tyler Lewis, Grant Schaefer and girlfriend Meme Walters, Rachel Goebel and boyfriend Andrew Dupy, Luke Schaefer and girlfriend Allison Hollingshead, and Jacob Schaefer; his three siblings, Vernon Schaefer, Mary Ann Eberhart, and Gerald (Connie) Schaefer; brother-in-law Steve (Jeanette) Engelke; and many special nieces and nephews.

Arlin was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Lester (Wilma) Engelke; sister-in-law Roberta Schaefer and brother-in-law Bill Eberhart.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 4-7 pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown, and again on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11am. Pastor Oliver LaMie will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairietown Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
