Mother Aretha Manley, at the age of 88, went home to be the Lord early Sunday morning, June 28, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Born: September 22, 1926 to the late Rev. Fred Winston and Jimetta (Smith) Winston.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to George Roger Manley on September 28, 1946. To this union one child was born, Myra Jean Manley. They both preceded her in death.
Aretha was baptized at an early age at St. James Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Russom. She was educated in the Alton School system.
She worked as a pastry chef at the Monticello College and had various other restaurant jobs. Aretha was very active in the church, singing in the choir, usher board, and the motherboard. She was the oldest active member of Harvest Christian Fellowship Church and has been a member since it was organized in 2000.
Aretha loved to bake and cook and was very passionate about crocheting
In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Sabe and Grady Winston and five sisters; Zelma Charleston, Ethel Mae Davis, Jamesetta Wilson, Mildred Brown, and Joann Searles.
Aretha Manley leaves to cherish precious memories, 2 grandsons; Nicholas and Brian Jackson, one great-grandson; Levi Brian Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will convene Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 4 to 7 at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church and will resume Friday, July 3 from 9 until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
