Anne Gregor

Anne F. Gregor, age 93, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Keystone Place in Glen Carbon, IL. Anne was born on February 16, 1933, in Livingston, IL, the daughter of the late Anton & Valera (Brockley) Perne.

Anne is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Robert Gregor who she married in 1956; their two children, Bradley Gregor (wife Rosemary) and Darcy Benway (husband, Steve); six grandchildren, Robert (wife Kara), Ryan (wife Monica), Victoria (husband Brandon), Rachael (husband Dominic), Rebecca (fiancé Cavan), and Matthew (wife Stephanie); six great grandchildren; and a sister, Nanette Holloway.

Besides her parents, Anne was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Sid Holloway.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville for over 50 years serving as an Elder and Deacon. She was also treasurer of the GEM committee and member of Capital Campaign.

Anne graduated from Livingston High School in 1950. Following graduation, she attended Illinois State University graduating in 1954 with a major in Accounting and a minor in Health and Physical Education. While at ISU she played softball and volleyball, was on the homecoming court her junior year, and served as president of Kappa Delta Epsilon. She received her Master’s in Administration from Southern University in Edwardsville in 1969.

Anne was a dedicated teacher. Following her retirement, she substituted at the Edwardsville High School for 23 years - a teaching career that spanned 63 years. She taught at the following schools: Edwardsville High School, Edwardsville Junior High School and 3rd grade at Leclaire Elementary; in Nashville, TN: Highland Heights Elementary and West End High School; in Alton, East Junior High School; and in Altenburg, MO: 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade in a two-room school.

While teaching at the Edwardsville High School, she coached the cheerleaders and the swim team. The cheerleaders placed 1st in state competition in 1956 and one of her swimmers placed 1st in the state swim meet in 1983. She is the only coach in EHS history to have 1st places at state in two different sports. She also served as a swimming official with the highlight being the officiating of the U. S. Nationals in Fresno, CA.

She was a past member of the Edwardsville Junior Service Club, the Illinois Education Association, and the National Education Association. She is a present member of the Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association and the Madison County Retired Teacher’s Association. She also served as President of the Parkside Place Condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks.

For short spans of time in her life she had various interesting employments. She worked for Florist Mutual, the Edwardsville Park and Recreation Department, The Madison County Treasurer, and also served for a short time as County Clerk in Perry County, MO.

She considered one of her greatest accomplishments to be the correcting of the Historic Route 66 from the years of 1940-1970. This correction is shown by road signs for an eleven mile stretch of highway south and east of Livingston, IL. She was also responsible for the placement of a four-way stop at a dangerous intersection at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Anne loved her students, her teaching, her family, and life in general.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church, 3601 Ridge View Rd, Edwardsville, IL, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am also at the church with Rev. Dr. John C. Hembruch officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
