Anna Carter

Anna E. Carter, 89, passed away 2:47 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at her residence. Born in Jerseyville on October 18, 1927, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Ann (Fitzgibbons) Novotny. A graduate of Our Savior Hospital Nursing School in Jacksonville, she retired from the Olin Corporation after 40 years as Supervisor of Nurses. She was a certified occupational health nurse. Ann was a lifetime member of East Alton American Legion Post 794 Auxiliary and was a past president. She married Clyde Carter on November 25, 1962 in Brighton. He died in November 2003. She was sadly preceded in death by her only son, Thomas "Tom" Clyde Carter in March of 2011. Surviving are two grandchildren, Brett and Jacqueline Carter; daughter in law, Toni Carter; and three sisters, Katie, Lillian and Helen. A brother and three sisters also preceded in death. Private services were conducted at Marks Mortuary in Wood River by Fr. Donald Wolford, with burial in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
