Anna Czech

Anna Marie (nee Cunningham) Czech, age 89 of Collinsville, IL, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Mercy Rehab and Care Center in Swansea, IL surrounded by family.

She was born August 11, 1933 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Edward and Matilda (nee Barker) Cunningham.  Friends and family lovingly knew her as “Ann”.

Ann attained her Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and taught grade school in Catholic schools all around the Metro East Area until retiring in 2001.  She was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville and enjoyed reading, knitting, book club, traveling, socializing with her long-time friends from high school, music, and the theatre.  She was proud of her Irish heritage and St. Patrick’s Day was a special day of celebration to her.  Ann was a wonderful person who was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Czech, whom she married June 9, 1956; two brothers:  John and Edward Cunningham; a sister-in-law, Doris Cunningham; a niece, Geri Cunningham; and a bonus grandson, Andrew Kuebrich.

Surviving are her husband, Richard “Dick” Kuebrich, whom she married January 15, 2001; her three children:  Julie (Scott) Czech of CO, Edward (Gail) Czech of Freeburg, IL, and John (Cindy) Czech of Edwardsville, IL; seven grandchildren:  Toby Cain, Carter Cain, Parker Cain, Dillon (Alyssa) Czech, Schuyler Czech, Elias Czech, and Dustin Czech; three bonus sons:  Matt (Jill) Kuebrich, John (Kelli) Kuebrich and Martin (Janelle) Kuebrich; five bonus grandchildren: Mathew, Ben, Kevin, Katie and Collin; three bonus great-grandchildren:  Henry, Linnea and Maceo; two nieces: Patti (Larry) Kenetski and Kathy Cunningham; and many friends.

At Ann’s request, her body was donated to the Saint Louis University School of Medicine for the advancement of science. 

Memorial visitation will be held from 4 – 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL. 

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 N. Lange Street, Maryville, IL with Father Gene Neff celebrant.  A luncheon will immediately follow in the Parish Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Catholic Ministry of the Sick and Aged in Belleville and will be received at the funeral home.
