Angelo M. Provenzano, age 96, of Godfrey, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Eunice Smith Home. Angelo was born February 3, 1920, in Rockford, IL, the son of Vincent and Josephine (Moscarelli) Provenzano. He grew up in old South Rockford and graduated from St. Anthony of Padua School in 1934. Following grade school, Angelo entered the machine trades program at Rockford Central High School, graduating in 1939. He apprenticed as a tool-and-die maker and worked over 45 years as a journeyman die maker in both product development and production. He worked for several Rockford firms, including Barber Colman, Brearley Co., Eclipse Engineering, Carter Machine Tool, and Atwood Automotive. He retired from Atwoods in 1985.At 18, Angelo enlisted in the Illinois National Guard. He served his country for two years and was honorably discharged in November 1940. Angelo married Geraldine ‘Geri’ Armato (daughter of Mikeal and Francis (Riportella)) on June 6, 1943, at St. Anthony’s in Rockford. They had a wonderful marriage of 68 years, living in their cozy white home and at Siena Independent Living. Geraldine preceded Angelo in death on February 10, 2011. In retirement, Angelo and Geri enjoyed spending winters with friends and relatives in Apache Junction, Arizona. Angelo also enjoyed making wooden model ships and airplanes and gardening. Angelo is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Nolen Provenzano of Godfrey; a daughter, JoAnn Provenzano of Rockford; three grandchildren, Christopher Provenzano of Somerville, MA, Michelle Provenzano of Oakland, CA, and Melissa and Beale Harrison of Sausalito, CA; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Angelo is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings and their spouses, Sr. Mary (Alverna) Antonia Provenzano, OSF, Peter and Mary Provenzano, Michael and Ann Provi, Salvatore (infant death), and Sam and Edna Provenzano. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Fr. Jerry Wickenhauser officiating.
