Andrew J. Funk, 48, of Godfrey, a beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend passed away surrounded by his family at 5:30 p.m. as the sun set on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 16, 1976, in Alton, Illinois, the loving son of Mike and Linda (Dungy) Funk.
Andy grew up in Brighton, IL. where he attended Southwestern Elementary School. Andy graduated from Marquette Catholic High School class of 1994 in Alton IL. He also graduated and played baseball at Lewis and Clark Community College and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
On August 14, 2011, Andy married Farrah Bailey at Glazebrook Park in Godfrey, Illinois.
Andy was known for his contagious smile, good looks, sense of humor, and outgoing personality. Andy made many friends and was the “big brother” to his sister's friends.
Andy had a gentle and kind soul and was a hard worker. Andy had a deep love for his family and was passionate about outdoors and sports. Andy had a natural talent for baseball and a love for sport. Andy played on the LCCC World Series Baseball Team.
Andy also enjoyed fishing, boating, canoeing, and sharing his love for the outdoors with his son, Michael, and his love of sports with his daughter, Claire. Andy was employed by Wegman Electric as a Safety Coordinator.
Andrew is survived by his parents Mike and Linda Funk of Godfrey IL; his wife Farrah Funk, and their children Claire and Michael Funk of Godfrey, IL; his sister, Amanda (Adam) Cole of Godfrey, IL.; his sister-in-law, Danielle (Jesse) Blaine of TX; and brothers-in-law, Robert (Chrissy) Kaley and David Kaley of TX.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Wyatt Cole of Godfrey, Dylan and Lillian Blaine of TX, Izzy and Leela Kaley of TX; Aunts and Uncles Nancy (Casey) Johnson of Dow, IL, Donna (Danny) Sly of IN, Darla (David) Cavins of Jerseyville, IL, and Carla (Jodey) Baugh of FL; and cousins Chance (Kisha) Funk of Brighton, IL, Chet (Vanessa) Funk of Jerseyville, IL, Tyler Johnson of NC, Maddie Johnson of Bozeman, MT, Neil Sly of MI, Cory (Mindy) Sly of IN, and Patrick Cavins of WA.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 4 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 7 p.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home at 1313 West Delmar, Godfrey, with Doug Macias officiating.
Burial will be private. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made for Claire and Michael Funk’s education and care of the family.
