Alma "Elaine" Johnson, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Alton Memorial Rehabilitation in Alton, IL.
She was born on March 9, 1943, in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Pearl (Long) Chestnut.
Elaine married Zeph Johnson on July 10, 1970, in Bethalto and he preceded her in death December 23, 2009.
Elaine's greatest joys were spending time with her family.
Elaine is survived by two sons, Darin Johnson and Michael Johnson, both of Bethalto; four siblings and their spouses, John Chestnut, Allen Chestnut, Margaret and Kenny Wiseman, and Alice Hutchins; a daughter-in-law, Marcella Chestnut, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Leonard Chestnut and Tom Chestnut; a brother-in-law, Dennis Hutchins; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Chestnut.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with arrangements.
Cremation rites were accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
