Allan Adelsberger

Allan Paul Adelsberger, 82, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 18, 1943, in Creal Springs, Illinois, Allan grew up in West Frankfort, where he forged lifelong friendships and values rooted in hard work, faith, and family. On December 21, 1963, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Susan Link, at First Baptist Church in Benton. Together, they shared 61 beautiful years filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering love.

Allan built a career dedicated to helping others, first with Granite City Steel in the Human Resources Department and later with McDonnell Douglas, where he ultimately retired.

Allan’s passion was playing golf. He spent countless joyful hours on the course with friends, cherishing the camaraderie and challenge of the game. Among his proudest moments was achieving a hole-in-one at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton, IL.

Above all else, Allan’s greatest joy was his family. He poured his heart into every role—husband, father, papa, great-papa, brother, and uncle. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and nothing delighted him more than spoiling them with love and laughter.

Allan will be remembered as a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a compassionate soul whose presence made the world better. Allan led his life very selflessly, always putting his loved ones needs ahead of his own. His legacy of strength, love, and kindness will live on in all who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Joe and Nannie L. (Jones) Adelsberger, and his brother, Glen Adelsberger.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Susan Adelsberger of Granite City; his daughters, Amy (Shannon) Bareiter of Wright City, Missouri, and Abigail (Eric) Alfaro of Granite City; his sister, Helen (Don) Ehrensperger of Crystal Lake, Illinois; his grandchildren, Emily (Kyle) Quellmalz, Allison (Logan Mosele) Saccketti, Bradley Allan Bishop, and Alex Eversman; his great-grandchildren, Harper Quellmalz and August Mosele; his nephew, Doug (Kelly) Wilkerson; his great niece and nephew, Erin Glueck and Hunter Wilkerson, as well as extended family and many treasured friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., lovingly conducted by his nephew, Doug. Private family interment will be held at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Benton, IL., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Family Hospice of Belleville, Illinois, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
