Albert Joel Wilkinson, 86, received eternal rest and peace on Friday April 22, 2016 at 8:30 am at Eunice Smith Nursing Home after three days in hospice care as the result of a long illness.Albert was born January 9, 1930 in Godfrey, Illinois, the son of Gale Beasley Wilkinson and Mary Josephine (Cavalier) Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson was predeceased by his wife, Salle A. Wilkinson, sisters, Mary Britts and Eleanor Wilkinson, sisters- in- law Phyllis Moore and Sr. Virginia Marie Perkins O S.U.  This loving father is survived by his daughter, Lisa Wilkinson (Ahsan), and sons, David (Carolyn) and Michael Wilkinson. his grandchildren: Ahmed, Amna, Ma’jidah, Lexi, Cole and John and nieces: Marie Schickedanz, Rita Hillman, Theresa Britts, Lorraine (Perkins) Ramirez and Ida (Perkins) Preston. Albert will also be missed by his loving caregivers at Eunice Smith Nursing Home and many other relatives and friends in the Godfrey and Alton communities in which he resided his entire life.Albert and Salle were married on July 7, 1963, and were married until her death in October 7, 2013. They were members of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Albert retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years. He served on the Jersey County Water Board for 27 years. He served his country in the Army. After retirement from the post office, he also drove a shuttle bus for the Alton Belle. He was the longtime owner-operator of Wilkinson’s Lake on Winter Lane in Godfrey which provided years of outdoor enjoyment to the community. He loved his lifetime of farming the family property.Visitation Monday April 25, 2016 at Cathy M. Williams & Sons Funeral Home in Alton from 9am until time of service at 11am Burial St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
