Alan Fricker

Alan H. Fricker, 88, of Bethalto (formerly of Medora), died at 5:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Jerseyville Manor.

He was born in Medora on November 7, 1935 to the late Henry and Martha (Wood) Fricker.

On October 28, 1954, he married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Myrtle Lee Johnson at Bethel Baptist Church and she survives.

Alan was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in rural Jersey County where he was a deacon, trustee and served on many committees.

Alan was an exceptional athlete, excelling at basketball. He set the Medora High School basketball scoring record with 1,942 points.

Alan rooted for the Cubs until the day he died and proudly wore a Cubs hat and sported a Cubs decal on his van. He was an Electrician at Laclede Steel in Alton for 42 years. Alan also proudly served on the Southwestern School Board for 7 years.

He was known for his elaborate hand-made animated Christmas display that filled his yard in Medora and drew on-lookers from miles around.

He and Myrt loved to travel and were fortunate to visit many places, including Europe, Alaska and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses: Alana (Larry) Bussmann of Moro, Marla (David) Palmer of Wood River, Kimberly (Darrel) Mann of Medora and Todd (Tom Whalen) of Renton, Washington; one brother, David of Fallbrock, Califorinia and his sister and brother in-law, Rosemary (Don) Mayerhofer of Brighton. Alan was a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather to 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His grandchildren include: Kara (Jeremy) Roberts and Kelsey (Chris) Norris of Brighton, Emilee (Frank) Adduci of Worden, Blake Bussmann of Moro, and Katie (Josh) Vanausdoll of Jerseyville. Alan was great grandpa to: Klaire Roberts; Maddox, Graham, Luther and Parker Vanausdoll; Grady and Taryn Adduci.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father in-law and mother in-law, Wiley and Stella Johnson; two brothers and their wives, Harold and Judy Fricker and Bill and Connie Fricker; a sister in-law, Judy Fricker; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Services at 12 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Rev. Joel Lohr will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Medora Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
