Aileen Akers

Aileen Akers, 99, formerly of Wood River, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at 1:55 pm in Jerseyville Manor.

Born September 15, 1919 in Clinton, KY, she was the eldest daughter of  Thomas and Edna (Riley) Vivrette.

A long-time member of the 1st Baptist Church in Wood River and Loyal Order of Eastern Star; she was active in the Wood River, Roxana  and East Alton Senior Citizens Clubs, holding many offices throughout the years.  She enjoyed playing cards and BINGO; and loved being with her family.

She married Albert Akers on February 14, 1941 in East Alton.  He died February 15, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy (Paul) Struharik, Tammy (Jay) Cox all of Godfrey; grandchildren, Kristi (Rick) Martin of St. Peters, MO, Whitney Cox, Ashley (Kevin) Purkey all of Godfrey; great grandchildren, Cody and Rachel Martin of St. Peters, MO, Konnor Purkey of Godfrey; five nephews, Mark Winson, Terry Winson, David Akers, Frank Akers and Mark Akers.

Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm on Thursday, November 1 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Revs. Joel Lohr and Tom Plogue will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Godfrey Fire Protection District.
