Ada (Shaw) Wilkinson Short, 89, passed away to the sounds of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2017 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born in the bottoms of Greene County, Il., the last of surviving of  eleven children born to Hubert and Agnes (Wilhilmy) Shaw.She was a 1945 graduate from Jersey Township High School, and retired in 1986 where she had been employed at Olin Corp. in East Alton as an inspector.She learned early in the life the importance of faithfulness, loyalty and honesty, and continued to live those traits throughout her life. Ada had a deep belief and faith in Jesus Christ, and was a longtime and faithful member of the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville.  She was fiercely devoted to her family, and in return, Ada received the same love and care from her children and grandchildren.She married Curtis E. Wilkinson on Oct. 27, 1945 in Otterville, and together they were the proud parents of four children, and had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before his death on Nov. 22, 1995.   She later married Jesse Earl Short on May 11, 1996 in Virden, a while all to brief, they were blessed with happiness until his death on March 24, 1998.Surviving are a son and his companion, Dallas Wilkinson and Elaine DeGrande of Greenfield; two daughters and a son in law, Carla and Bill Brady of Jerseyville and Kathy Wilkinson, and her companion, Sharon McCall of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Betty McKenney; a son in law, James "Sonny" McKenney; a granddaughter, Jamie (Cox) Watters; a sister, Anna Turner; and eight brothers, James, George William, Clyde, Hubert, Paul Edward, Claude, Calvin and John Shaw, and a brother in infancy, Charles Herman Shaw.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday at the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville with Rev. Larry Hayes officiating.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville or to the Alzheimers Association.
