Jasmine Virginia "Jackie" Murrell, 95, entered into eternal peace at 2:17 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
Jackie was born on December 19, 1917, the only child of the late Harry G. & Ruby Irene (Compton) Meier. She graduated in 1934 from Grafton High School, and later married Carman C. Murrell in Poyner, MO. on April 9, 1938. They shared 36 years together before his death on May 7, 1974.
Jackie was a dedicated housewife for most of her life, and when her children were younger and in school, she served for a time as President of the PTA. In her late 70's and early 80's, Jackie worked part time for several years for the Grafton Senior Citizens Meals Program.
Jackie was an avid reader and wrote much poetry in her younger years, and in 1936 she had a poem titled "Lure" published in the poetry book, "Diadem of the Muse".
Surviving are three sons & daughters in law, Carman B. and Sandy Murrell of Bethalto, Lanny & Cecilia Murrell of Abingdon, VA., Michael & Marie Murrell of Wood River; a daughter, Jennifer Murrell of St. Louis, MO.; five grandchildren, Tonya (Murrell) Ryan, Nicholas Murrell, Stacy Murrell, Shana Murrell, and Michelle (Murrell) Rose; along with numerous great grandchildren.
Her granddaugther, Tonya (Murrell) Ryan cared for Jackie for the past six years of her life, with the exception three months where she resided in the VIP Manor in Wood River. The family is eternally grateful for the effort put forth by Tonya in caring for her grandmother after she could no longer live independently.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in the Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be given to the Hope Center in Cottage Hills.
