Sara J. (Hayes) McNab, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on March 30, 2012. Sara was born on October 18, 1928 to Cletus W. Hayes and Edna (Witt) Hayes in Carrollton, IL. She graduated from Alton High School and was employed at Illinois Bell as a telephone operator for 20 years, retiring in 1990. Sara was a remarkable woman and mother. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, lunching with friends, Bingo Club with her sisters, bowling, the St. Louis Cardinals, and above all else, spending time with her family. Her children are Ann Rathgeb and her husband Daryl of Alton, Robert W. McNab, Jr. and his wife Leslie of Kirkwood, MO, Linda Roe and her husband Don of St. Louis, MO and Sara Kay McNab of Park Ridge, IL. Her grandchildren are Daryl Rathgeb, Jr. of Harrisonburg, VA, Alex Rathgeb of Alton, Keith, Kevin, and Luke McNab of Kirkwood, MO, Elizabeth and Cameron Roe of St. Louis, MO and Samuel and Bennett Miller of Park Ridge, IL. Her brothers and sisters are Agnes Naylor, Florita Duncan, Cletus W. Hayes, Jr., Rose Luecht, Dorothy May, Linda Wense and David Hayes. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Catherine Cole. Sara’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Hafez Alsmaan and the entire staff of St. Anthony’s for their compassion, honesty and care provided to their mother during her recent hospital stay. Memorials may be directed to St. Anthony’s Hospice, 915 E. 5th St, Alton, IL 62002. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a “Celebration of Sara” will take place at a later date at Upper Alton Baptist Church in Alton, IL.
