William R. Stevens, Jr., 68, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Born Dec. 18, 1942 in Jerseyville, he was the son of William R. Stevens, Sr. and Helen L. (Snyder) Stevens. He worked out of Granite City Local #520 as an operating engineer for 47 years, and was a member of the Bethalto Masonic Lodge #406 for 38 years.
On May 24, 1969, he married Georgeanne Sokolowski in East Alton. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Lisa Stevens of Roxana, Michael Stevens of Wood River, and Billy and Shannon Stevens of East Alton; two grandsons, Justin and Will Stevens; and his mother, Helen Stevens of Wood River.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Apr. 11 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where Rev. David Romoser will officiate services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 12.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
