Orville McIntyre

Orville A. McIntyre, 86, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born December 18, 1923 in Cornland, IL, son of Roy and Zilpha (Reed) McIntyre.  He graduated from Jersey Township High School in 1942 and joined the United States Navy two months later. 

He served on a destroyer in several of the battles for the islands in the South Pacific during World War II.  He was a member of Local 377 Carpenter’s Union and worked in that profession for some 30 years.  He loved wood working, making several pieces of furniture for his home.  He was a member of Bethalto Presbyterian Church. He married Elaine Brinkman on October 19, 1963 in Jerseyville. 

He is survived by his wife, their daughter, Julianna and her husband Derek Dempsey of Alton, a sister, Wanda Wells and husband Richard Wells of Jerseyville, nieces and nephews and special friends, Dorothy Adams and family and Don and Emma Brandt.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gerald and Merle McIntyre, sisters, Vera Rosa, Mary Roach, and baby sister, Mildred. 

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Bethalto Presbyterian Church.  Reverend Jerry Wray and Reverend Darrell Molen will officiate.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.  Memorials may be made to the Bethalto Presbyterian Church.
