John F. (Jack) Fischer, age 75, passed away, at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

Jack was born in Alton, IL on December 13, 1934, son of the late Irvin F. and Dorothy (Etheridge) Fischer.

He attended St. Mary’s School and was a graduate of Marquette Catholic high school, Class of 1953.

He married Beverly J. (Dulaney) Fischer, September 24, 1955 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Alton. She survives.

Jack retired from Shell Oil Company as an operating engineer foreman. He was a life long member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved country music, family vacations, and was an avid football and boxing fan. He was active with his son Rick in the Y.M.C.A., Indian Guide program. He was involved in the neighborhood watch program and enjoyed his Friday luncheons with his high school friends at Johnson’s Corner.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Melinda Fischer, Karen Fischer, Erick (Rick) Gentry and wife Jennifer and Cynthia Gentry; four grandchildren, Jennifer Williams and husband Joseph, Alexa Gentry, Austin Gentry and John Lyons; one sister, Mary Hentrich and her husband Jim and numerous nieces and nephews, that he loved very much.

He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved brother, Charles I. Fischer and sister, Jean Rizzoli; a brother-in-law, Joseph Rizzoli and a nephew Charles Rizzoli.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Fr. Jim Walther O.M.V. celebrating.

Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Alton at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the SS. Peter & Paul Parish School association for Melinda’s Children, 801 State St. Alton, IL 62002. or to the Helping Hand Medical Transport Service, which carries patients to dialysis treatment at no charge to the patient, 2125 South Belt West.
