Ronald E. Barrows, 81, passed away at 8:50 am on Friday, June 4, 2010 at his home.



He was born on February 25, 1929 in Browning, MO, the son of Ervin R. & Audree M. (Warren) Barrows.

He married Audrey J. Bruce on April 6, 1952 in Texarkana, AR. She survives.


Ronald served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a fork lift driver at Laclede Steel for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the East Alton American Legion Post 794 and the Wood River Moose. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending area wrestling meets. He especially enjoyed watching Civic Memorial Eagles wrestling and the Bethalto Bulls. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brent & Monica Barrows of Bethalto; a grandson, Brock Barrows; two sisters and a brother; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann & Herbert Hatten of Cottage Hills, Dale & Sue Bruce of Hartford, Ronnie Bruce of Roxana and Helen Barrows of Kansas City, MO and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 am until service time at 11 am on Monday, June 7, 2010 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Terry McKinzie officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.


Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
