John Lind

John E. Lind, 75, passed away Tuesday, 11:26 pm May 25, 2010 at his residence.

He was born on May 26, 1934 in Edwardsville, Illinois the son of the late Frank Emil and Alice "Ruth" (Honeyman) Lind. He served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years and the Army Reserve for 17 years, serving tours of duty in the Korean War and Operation Desert Storm.

He married the former Lila Logeman on October 25, 1997 in Alton, she survives.

He worked as a Journeyman Machinist for Owens Illinois until his retirement. He took great pride in being a member of numerous organizations which include; the VFW 1308 Ritual Team, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Club, American Legion, Franklin Masonic Lodge # 25AF&AM, Boy Scouts of America, AFLCIO, the Jerseyville Moose Lodge and the Brighton Rod and Gun Club.

John is survived by his wife Lila Lind of Brighton, six children; Kathy Jones and her husband Marty of Alton, Frank Lind of Bethalto, Chris Lind and his wife Nancy of Grafton, Tammy Beverly of Alton, Fawn Dintelmann and her husband Drew of Godfrey, Theresa Oberlohr and her husband Matt of Godfrey, as well as three step sons; Darren Pohlman and his wife Shelly of Hardin, Duane Pohlman and his wife Natalie of Wildermar, CA, and Daryl Pohlman and his wife Tammy of Brighton.

John is also survived by his ten grandchildren; DoeAnn Lind, Jason Jones, Julie Vatole, Michael Jones, Jordan Lind, Lindsay Lind, Aaron Lind, Noahe Lind, Matthew Oberlohr, and Sabrina Oberlohr; six great grandchildren and three sisters; Jane Schwartzkopf and her husband Neal of Alton, Mary Curtin and her husband, the late Phil of Alton, Patricia "Pat" Gvillo and her husband Richard of Moro and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sharon (Holmes) Lind.

A Mass of Celebration will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Shawn Monohan, OMV officiating. Interment in St. Patricks Cemetery in Godfrey will follow with full military rites by the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Visitation will be held at Thursday from 4 until 8pm at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. The Alton Knights of Columbus #460 will conduct a challis service at 7:00.
