Mary E. Lawrence, 91, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Bethalto to Jacob and Correnna (Foster) Apple on November 1, 1918.
Her marriage to Joe Lawrence took place Aug. 14, 1948 in Wood River. He passed away Aug. 28, 1999.
A schoolteacher, she taught at the Niagara and Eastwood Schools in East Alton for 23 years until her retirement in 1983.
Surviving is a daughter, Carol Ann Lawrence of East Alton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights Thursday, May 27 from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Pastor Bob Tracey will officiate.
Interment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
