Sandra Jean Walker, 62, died suddenly Saturday evening, May 1, 2010 in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville from complications of lung cancer.
She was born in Beardstown on July 7, 1947, the oldest of four daughters born to the late George & Loretta (Ruyle) Flynn.
She graduated in 1965 from Meredosia-Chambersburg High School, and married her best friend, Rodney Richard Walker at the home of her parents in Meredosia on June 18, 1965. During their nearly 45 year marriage they have shared many joys as well as many a heartbreak, but always did their best to make the best of their situation, and always worried about others around them.
Sandra held several jobs, including working at Motorola in Quincy, was a hostess at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton, and was a sales clerk at Roentz in Grafton, however her main joy and purpose in life was being a loving wife, mother and sister, and was known to be a solid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
Surviving are her husband, Rodney Walker of Dow; a son & daughter in law, Rodney "Rick" and Teresa Walker Jr. of Grafton; three sisters who also returned her love, Tami Slocum of Woodson, Jill Flynn of Richmond, Va., and Candace & Dale Woolsey of Roodhouse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two beloved children, both killed in separate vehicle accidents, Shayne Jean Walker on July 13, 1988 and JayDe Walker on June 14, 1997.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
She will once again be reunited with her children, as she will be laid to rest alongside them at the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.
Memorials may be given to the Alton Memorial Hospital Cancer Center.
