Catherine Scoggins

JERSEYVILLE-  Catherine Scoggins, 73, died at 5:08 a.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010 at her residence after a brief battle with cancer.She was born in Jerseyville and was the daughter of the late Arthur John & Ellen (Schanz) Herring.A lifelong resident of Jerseyville, she married Frank H. Scoggins on Feb. 2, 1951 in Pocahontas, Ark.  Together they owned & operated F&L Restaraunt located on Carpenter Street, and Frank's Package Liquor both in Jerseyville.  She then began working at Olin Corp. for a short time, until Frank became ill.  She cared for him during his illness until his death on Sept. 27, 1979.  On April 19, 1983, Catherine began working as a sales clerk at the Prescription Shop in Jerseyville, where she has continued to bless their customers with her smile and kindness until her recent illness.Surviving are a son & daghter in law, Frank & Debbie Scoggins of Jerseyville; a daughter & son in law, Ellen & Alan Zubor of Eldersburg, Md.; a step daughter, Myrna Grover of Clewiston, Fl.; a grandson, Mitchell Scoggins of Jerseyville; nine step grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Weller of Wood River, Mary Brown of Jerseyville; two brothers, William Herring of Seymour, Mo., and John Herring of St. Joseph, Mn.In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Herring & Frank Herring; and a sister, Eva Meres.Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, with Revs., Mark Myers and Dennis Hill officiating.Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, where she was a member.
