Reynold Hagen

Reynold Bernard Hagen, 83, died at 4:10 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born in Hardin on July 8, 1926, and was the son of the late Herman T. and Clara Ann (Flanigan) Hagen.

He was raised in Calhoun County and graduated from Hardin High School in 1945, and was rural mail carrier delivering mail from Hardin to Pearl until enlisting in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. After his discharge he returned to Jerseyville where he became employed at Owens-Illinois retiring in 1983 as a journeyman machinist after 30 years of service.  He was a 50+ year member of the International Association of Machinists #660 in Alton, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards and visiting every morning with his McDonalds buddies.

Surviving are five children & their spouses, Anita & Mike Kraut of Jerseyville, Denise & Jim Goudy of Brighton, Lisa Peuterbaugh and her companion, Gary Schwenk of Jerseyville, Reynold G. & Toni Hagen of Jerseyville, and Mark and Dawn Hagen stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Altus, Ok.;two step children & their spouses, Jill & Maurice Lee of Piasa and Bert & Tammy Hartley of Jerseyville; 25 Grandchildren; 38 Great Grandchildren; one brother, Herman B. Hagen of Hardin.He was preceded in death by his parents, his longtime partner & companion, Dorothy Hartley and her two sons, Joseph Hartley & George "Red" Hartley; his former wife and mother to his five children, Betty (Holder) Slayton; two infant daughters, Tracy K. & Stacy R. Hagen; an infant granddaughter, Amy D. Kraut; and infant great granddaughter, Alyssa Ehlers; a son in law, Charles Peuterbaugh; and a sister, Delores Lasater.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at  10 a.m., Wednesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in the St. Norbert's Cemetery in Hardin with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to the American Cancer Society.
