Robert S. Stephens, age 38, of Bethalto, Illinois, died at 3:09 pm on Thursday, April 1, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on February 11, 1972 in Alton, he is the son of John and Joan (nee: Cook) of Alton.
He married Jeanie I. Jockisch . She survives.
A 1990 graduate of Alton Senior High School, he proudly served his Country in the United States Navy from 1991 – 1997. He also graduated 1992 from Naval Nuclear Power School, and S.I.U.-Edwardsville in 2008. He was employed as a school teacher at Lower Yukon School District in Marshall, Alaska. He enjoyed traveling in his spare time.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is also survived by 3 children: Alexander, Sean, and Lydia Stephens all of Bethalto; a brother and sister in law: David & Samantha Stephens of Alton; three sisters and brothers in law: Shelley and James Embry of Greenfield, Illinois; Emily and Jeremy Sonnier of Alton; Mandy and Nathan Joyce of Alton; his Father in law: Thomas Jockisch of Godfrey, Illinois; his Mother in law: Wanda Jockisch of Godfrey, Illinois; many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, other extended family and many friends who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: John Evert Stephens, Jr. and James Paul Stephens and by his grandmother, Helen Cook.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Staten-Fine Funeral Home, 220 Court Street in Alton.
Private Burial will be held at a later date at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton with military rites accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Ritual Team.
Memorials may be made to a memorial fund that will be used for his Children’s Education .
