Dolores "Dede" Gaither Monroe, 82, died at 8:49 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born July 24, 1927 in Alton, she was the daughter of James C. and Mary E. (Dacey) Gaither. She retired from Campbell Pharmacy in Alton in 1992 after 28 years of service. In January 1948, she married Alvin M. Monroe. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1954.
Surviving are two daughters; Diane Crews of Florissant, MO and Vickie Monroe of Yulee, FL, a son, Jim Monroe and his wife Sandy of Alton, two grandchildren; Brett Crews and Tonya Massalone and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight brothers; Joe, Johnny, Gene, Melvin, Pat, Donald, Thomas and James Gaither and five sisters; Cora Corby, Ethel Gaither, Mildred Deem, Fern Volz and Shirley Winslow.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
