Thelma Shockley

Thelma Shockley, 96, died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab in Hardin.

Born December 18, 1913 in Rondo, MO, she was the daughter of Oliver and Lola (Durnell) McCracken. 

On June 3, 1932, in Weaubleau, MO, she married Ted Shockley.  The couple resided in Alton from 1941 to 1970, when they retired to Bolivar, MO, where they were members of the First Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death on December 9, 1987.  She returned to live in the Alton area in 1997. A cancer survivor since 1950, she was, in her early years, an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was an accomplished homemaker and avid bridge player and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by a daughter, Dolores (Dee) Kilgo and her husband Robert of Godfrey, a son, Jack Shockley and his wife Mary Gay of Union, MS, five grandchildren; Rob Kilgo, Dr. Matthew Kilgo, Alex Kilgo, Jay Shockley and Lisa Perkins, five great grandchildren; Annie Gay Robertson, Noah Perkins, Clay Kilgo, Kieren Kilgo and Rachel Kilgo, two brothers; Kenneth McCracken of New Braunfels, TX and Oliver McCracken Jr. of Sarasota, FL, and two sisters; Maxine Turner of Great Falls, VA and Mildred Renshaw of Ash Grove, MO. 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn McCracken. 

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Robinson Cemetery in Weaubleau, MO. 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
