Amanda Bowker

Amanda Jane Bowker, 85, died at 5:00 a.m., Friday, March 19, 2010 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

She was born in Jersey County on Aug. 16, 1924, the fifth of ten children born to the late Wiley & Stella (Frost) Johnson. She was raised in Medora, and graduated from Medora High School.  Years ago, she was a well known Stanley Home Products dealer, and had worked in the cafeteria at Southwestern High School.  She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where she had served as the church pianist/organist for over 60 years, and had recently been attending Charity Christian Center in Jerseyville.She married Lloyd Bowker on Feb. 14, 1943 in Omaha, Ne., and their marriage spanned 48 years before his death on May 3, 1991.Surviving are three sons & daughters in law, David & Faye Bowker of Medora, Gary & Jill Bowker of Brighton, and Brad & Carol Bowker of Granite City; nine grandchildren & their spouses, Richard & Michele Bowker of St. Charles, Mo., Debbie & Wes Hudson of Talkeetna, Alaska, Gary & Amanda Bowker Jr. of Pana, Major John J. Bowker of Santa Monica, Ca., SSgt. Bryan & Katie Bowker of Colonial Heights, Va., Chad & Jenny Bowker of Chesterfield, Il., Eric & Lisa Bowker of Godfrey, SSgt Robert Henderson of Panama City Beach, Fl., and Torrie Henderson of Granite City; 16 great grandchildren, Krystal, Benjamin, Joelle, Joshua Tanna Jo, Brant, Kennedy, Bryan Jr., Ethan, Kaila, Lindsey, Erik, Madeline, Malia, Nadia, Logan, and Jordan; two sisters & a brother in law, Vesta Burman of Salem, SD., Myrt & Alan Fricker of Medora; two brothers & sisters in law, Charles & Lorena Johnson of Girard and Wiley "Buck" & Betty Johnson of Medora; her special neices & nephews, Marla Jane, Kim & Todd, and many other nieces & nephews; a goddaughter, Dawn Estelle Campbell of Bruce, SD, and her special buddies, Michael & Lea Miller of Brighton.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Pearl "Pud" Johnson and Lawrence "Tootie" Johnson; and three sisters, Stella Marjorie Moore, Mildred Ann "Dan" Maple, and Mary Alice "Dalice" Luce.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  Rev. Wilbur Cain will offiicate.Burial will be in the Medora Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Moose Charities.
