Oscar T “Butch” Reed, 54, passed away after a hard fought five year battle with cancer, at 7:46 pm Wednesday March 10, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.

He was born on October 9, 1955 in Neptune, New Jersey, the son of the late Oscar and Lois (Lewis) Reed.

He was a pipefitter for Olin Brass Corporation for 30 years.  He lived in Alton most of his life.  He belonged to the Alton Motor Boat Club, and he enjoyed boating, fishing and golfing. He was also an avid Civil War history buff and enjoyed being with his family and friends.

He is survived by two children a daughter Alicia Reed and her companion Matthew Flach of Chicago, a son Kristopher Reed and his companion Amie Corso of St. Louis, three sisters Cynthia Reed and partner Marilyn Gibbons of Alton, Laura and spouse Jimmy Fowler of Godfrey, Pamela and spouse Jay Cates of Brighton, one niece Morgan Cates and one nephew Cooper Cates.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 11am to 2 pm Saturday March 13, 2010 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. 

Butch wanted to donate his organs and body to science in order to help others.
