Chiquita A. Harvey, 62, passed away at 5:53 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born on January 8, 1947 in Alton, IL, the daughter of William Chester & Anna Georgina (Oakland) Purdy.
She married Drexel Harvey on October 10, 1976 in Wood River, Illinois. He survives.
She was a school teacher in the Alton School District #11, touching many children's lives, until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary 1308, National Wildlife Federation, National Education Association and the Illinois Education Association. She enjoyed teaching, loved animals, flowers and plants. She was an avid gardener and very artistic.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a step daughter and her husband, Nanette & William Galbraith of Alton; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Harvey of Livingston; 4 step grandchildren, Kasey Harvey of Livingston, Mitch Harvey of O'Fallon, MO, and Justin & Amanda Galbraith of Alton; 2 sisters, Martha Lee & Sonny Christie of Owensboro, KY and Tina Purdy of Grafton and 2 nieces and their husbands, Amanda & Matt Czia of Nutwood and Cheri & Keith Rone of Bowling Green, KY.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two stepsons, Rick Harvey & Brett Harvey and a sister, Linda Markham.
A memorial visitation will be from 5 pm until service time at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 3 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Father Mike Morrissey officiating.
Memorials may be given to 5 A's Humane Society.
