Jean C. Hornsey, age 76, passed away at 3:33 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Alton Memorial Hospital, in Alton.
She was born on August 10, 1933 in Alton, IL, son of Raymond & Emily (Berner) White.
She was married to David L. Hornsey at St. Patrick's in Alton on January 15, 1955 and he passed away on September 25, 1990.
Jean was employed at the Alton Water Company in the business offices after high school and then was moved to Alton Memorial Hospital in the business offices for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. She was a former member of the St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Alton, IL, where she was a member of the Alter Society, worked Bingo and was in the funeral ministry with the Ladies Auxiliary. She then became a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Hornsey of Alton, five son's and their spouse's, Mark & Kathy Hornsey of Granite City, Thomas Hornsey of Alton, William & Carol Hornsey of Moro, Michael & Sandra Hornsey of Godfrey, and Steven Hornsey of Alton, a sister and brother in law Susan & Charles Brown of Alton, four grandchildren, Brandon, Heather, Alex, and April.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Patrick "Duke" John Hornsey.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton, with a prayer service being held at 2 pm.
Funeral Mass will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 with Fr. Delix Michel S.S.L. officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Alton.
Memorials may be given to a Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and or the Leukemia Foundation.
