Lorraine Dorothy Carpenter, 94, died at 12:30 a.m. October 3, 2009 at Eunice Smith Home in Alton.
Born on November 10, 1941, in Michael, IL she was the daughter of the late Michael and Caroline (Sprong) Hazelwonder.
She married John W. Carpenter Sr. in Michael on May 6, 1930. They enjoyed 72 years of love and happiness together. He died January 13, 2003.
She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.
She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A joy in her life was cooking for her family and friends.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Mae and Perry Heavner of Godfrey, Emma and Sylvester Sievers of Alton, Alice and George Adams of Godfrey; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Sandy Carpenter of Godfrey, Gary and Sharon Carpenter of East Alton; 11 grandchildren, Rick Heavner, Roxy Stevens, Susan Gillson, John Sievers, Bob Tucker, Bill Tucker, Michael Adams, John Carpenter III, Carrie Dellamano, Gary Carpenter, Alan Carpenter; 21 Great-grandchildren, Kristy West, Brian and Brad Stevens; Steve, Dustin, and Brett Gillson, Joshua, Sam and Mike Sievers, Emily and Kyle Tucker, Katie Ziolko, Mike Adams Jr., Allison Adams, Nathan, Daniel and Matthew Carpenter, Cortlan Dellamano and Cody Carpenter, Stanley Ziolko and other extended Family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Gress, Margaret Klunk, and Sadie Roth and five brothers, Frank, Guy, Michael, George and John Hazelwonder.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the employee activity fund at Eunice Smith Home or to a charity of the donor's choice.
