Robert "Bob" L. Tarrant, age 73, went to be with the Lord at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on October 2, 1935 in Omaha, IL, the son of the late Eslie & Ocie (Dorris) Tarrant.

He was marred to Mary Stutz on October 6, 1956 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto spending 53 years together. She survives.

Bob was employed at Canteen Corp for 28 years and then worked at Owens Illinois in the purchasing / receiving dept for 14 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, the Alton Motor Boat Club and the Alton Eagles # 254. He loved to garden, fish, hunt and boat. He was a great cook and loved to do canning of his vegetables out of the garden.

He is survived by five children and their spouses, Cheryl & Scott Hargrave of Fosterburg, Lisa & Gilbert Moses of Fosterburg, Robert W. & Melind Tarrant of Alton, Karen & Greg Pope of Fosterburg and Tricia & Daryl Guffey of Tampa, FL; fifteen grandchildren, Ryan Hargrave and fiancée Risha Hahnenkamp, Jennifer & Chris Anderson-Krome, Lindsay Hargrave, Kimberly Hargrave, Marisa & Tim Murray, Jamie Moses, Travis Tarrant and fiancée Ali McAfoos, Lauren Tarrant, Alyssa Tarrant, Nichole Pope and fiancé Aaron Jones, Megan & Kase McDonald, Eric Pope, Daniel Guffey, Allsion Guffey and Amanda Guffey; one step grandson, Benjamin Guffey; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wm Tarrant of Alton and Larry & Phyllis Tarrant of Godfrey; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna & Rusty Lamberson of Hull, IL; two half sisters, Alta Haas of Midway, AR and Doris Cottingham of Brighton and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Jean Tarrant and a nephew, Ricky Tarrant.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Father David Yankauskas O.M.V. officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at Zimmerman Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony's Hospice.
