Frederick Stamm

Frederick C. Stamm Sr., 80, died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton. Born February 28, 1929 in Alton, he was the son of Fred H. and Martha L. (Clark) Stamm. He was a machinist for Owens Illinois Glass in Alton, having worked for them from the age of 16 until they closed. He was a member of the Alton Eagles Foe No. 254. He loved baseball and football and woodworking. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On July 2, 1950 in Alton, he married the former Edna Mehrer. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kathy Kirk and her husband David of Godfrey, a son, Fred C. Stamm Jr. and his wife Kelly of Lufkin, TX, six grandchildren; Darrin Stamm, stationed at Fort Carson, CO, Annie Johnson and her husband Tommy of Lufkin, Texas, Alex Stamm of Lufkin, Texas, David Kirk Jr. of Godfrey, Dustin Kirk of Godfrey, and Megan Kirk of Godfrey, four great grandchildren; Makenzi and Harlee Johnson, and Braylon and Makayla Stamm. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Reverend Steve Rice will officiate. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.
