Randy Nichols

Randy G. Nichols, 53, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. Born November 17, 1955 in Alton, he was the son of Marvin and Betty (Harmon) Nichols of Godfrey. He worked for Alton Park and Recreation services for the city of Alton since 1975. He volunteered many hours to the building of all the playgrounds at Gordon Moore Park and was especially proud of the new fountain at Rufus Easton. He was an avid golfer. On December 19, 1987, he married Linda (Osborne) Henkhaus in Godfrey. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Jessica Nichols of Alton, two step-sons; Jeremy Henkhaus of Edwardsville, and Jason Henkhaus and his wife Claire of Houston, TX, a sister, Debra Strebel and her husband John of Shipman, a close niece, Amy Stock of St. Louis, MO, and numerous other nieces and nephews, a grandson, Jackson Henkhaus of Houston, TX, two brothers-in-law; Paul Osborne and his wife Kay of Woodburn, and Gary Osborne and his wife Becky of Godfrey, three sisters-in-law; Martee Lucas and her husband Len of Alton, Rita Eifert and her husband Danny of Godfrey, and Linda Nichols of Rockwall, TX. He also leaves behind very special friends; Mike and Margaret Kopsie of Alton, Rhonda Anderson and her husband Joel of Alton, Rick York of Alton, and Mike Lindley of Alton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robin Nichols. Visitation will be from 5:00 until time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Destiny Fellowship, 519 Grace Street, Godfrey, IL. Reverend Paul Guerin will officiate. Memorial donations may be given in Randy's name to the family. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
