Anna Heafner

Anna Marie Heafner, 84, passed away on September 13 at 3:08 pm after a long journey in the world of Alzheimer's disease. Anna died at Jersey Community Hospital with her family at her bedside. Anna was born at home in Godfrey on November 22, 1924 to Joseph and Caroline (Nolan) Schetter. She was the second of eight children. Anna attended the Godrey public schools. During World War II she worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Works until she married the late Elmer E. Heafner on December 28, 1946. Her husband passed away on May 21, 1984. She later worked as a cook and waitress at several establishments in the area to help her sons complete their higher educations. Anna was very active in the Godfrey American Legion Women's Auxiliary for many years and attended St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey. Anna was the proud mother of three sons, Elmer J. and Toni, James E. and Nancy, and Gene A. and Jackie, all of Godfrey. She had ten grandchildren, Michele and Bob Myers of Rolla, MO, Matthew and Suzy of Liberty MO, David of Godfrey with Companion Holly Smiley, John and Kristi of Pittsfield, IL, Joseph and Tina of Lee's Summit, MO, Jacob of Sycamore IL, Joy of Chicago, Teressa, Sara and Kristina all of Godfrey. She had ten great grandchildren: Brandi, Alicia, Kalliesta, Skyelar, Rayla, Jack, Jaynee, Jacen, Jenna and Justin. Surviving are three sisters, Barbara Joehl of Godfrey, Elizabeth Ely of Chesterfield MO, Caroline Witt of Moro IL and a brother, Leon and Pat Schetter of Brighton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph and sisters Josephine Tipsword and Kristina Kraushaar.

     Anna enjoyed working on the family farm, in her garden, canning, attending church and spending time with her family. She loved music, cooking and square dancing. Anna was a generous person who always helped others.

Visitation will be at St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. preceding the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. o'clock. Father Jerry Wickenhauser will be officting. She will be buried at Valhalla Memorial Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to St. Clare's Adult Day Care of Alton and St. Ambrose Church of Godfrey.
