Ross Moxey

Ross Lester Moxey, Sr., 86, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

He was born February 21, 1923 in Alton to Mitford Issac and Julia Pearl (Howary) Moxey.
After retiring in 1983 as an electrician for the Box Board he worked as a custodian for SIUE. In WWII he served with the 8th Air Force where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a life member of VFW post 2859 in Wood River and a life member of the 8th Air Force Heavy Memorial Association and a member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Alton. On January 18, 1944 in Alton he married Betty Exton and she preceded him in death on July 29, 1996.
Surviving are three sons: Ross Lester Moxey, II of Hoston, Iowa, Daniel Joseph Moxey of Collinsville and Timothy Lee Moxey of Springfield. 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, three brothers: Charles Robert Moxey of Alton, Joseph Moxey of Hartford and Phillip J. Moxey of Godfrey, two sisters; Nina P. Wilson of Chicago and Dorothy Whyte of Alton. Besides his parents and wife he is preceded in death by one son; Thomas Lee Moxey, two great-grandchildren, and two brothers; Mitford and Orville Moxey and one sister; Mary Ann Dillow.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at GENT Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Sam Henning officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Garden in Bethalto.
