Ronald Lee Sherman, 72, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Born August 29, 1936 in Plymouth, IL, he was the son of Arthur and Edith (Evans) Sherman.
He retired in 1994 from Laclede Steel as an electrician after nearly 40 years of service. He was a member of the Abundant Life Community Church. He was devoted to his family, church and friends. On June 15, 1957 in East Alton, he married the former Maxine Riley. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Rhonda Dortch of Monroe, NC, two sons; Jeff Sherman and his wife Tammy of Gillespie, and Todd Sherman and his wife Monika of Springfield, MO, seven grandchildren; Ivory, Uriah, Lindsey, Megan, Sam, Isaac, and Elizabeth, a great grandchild, Addison, and two sisters; Dorothy Beck and her husband Dean of Industry, IL and Esther Ward and her husband Terry of Houston, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Kenneth and Wendell Sherman, and a sister, Winona Beard. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Abundant Life Community Church.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Reverend Sam Henning and Reverend Gerald Calaway will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Abundant Life Community Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
