Michael Bemis

Michael Patrick Bemis, 32, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 at his home. Born May 9, 1976 in Alton, he was the son of Dr. Gerald H. and Linda G. (Felkey) Bemis Sr. of Alton. He was a massage therapist and long time employee of Bemis Chiropractic Center in Alton and was a member of the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 7, loved soccer, snow boarding, tennis and disk golf. He was instrumental in starting disk golf at Rock Springs Park in 2008. He was a friend to all people and animals. He had a big heart, was much loved and never met a stranger. Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers; Dr. Gerald H. Bemis Jr. and his fiancé Angel Goodrich of Godfrey and his best friend and twin brother, Dr. Geoffrey E. Bemis and his wife Melissa of Godfrey, a sister, Rachel Bemis of Talking Rock, Georgia, five nieces and nephews; Tyler Goodrich, Jerry Bemis III, Joel Bemis, Benjamin Goodrich and Adeline Irene Bemis, and his grandmother, Irene Felkey of Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Wilbur Felkey and Dr. Frank E. and Dorothy Bemis. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services and burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Trails West Council of Boy Scouts of America or to the 5A's Animal Shelter.
