Chris A. Hatfield, 61, of Bethany and formerly of Steger, Illinois, passed away at 2:26 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Born November 22, 1964, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, he was the son of Marjorie Lucille (Whitsell) Hatfield and the late John Richard Hatfield.
Chris married the love of his life, Maureen E. (Hall) Hatfield, on September 16, 2016, at Barnes Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Their marriage was a beautiful reflection of the love, devotion, and unwavering commitment they shared. Together they shared a life filled with laughter, friendship, and cherished memories.
A skilled welder by trade, Chris dedicated many years to his profession, but his greatest joy was found outdoors with a fishing pole in hand. Whether casting a line on a quiet morning or spending time with those he loved, fishing brought him peace and happiness. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and eagerly looked forward to every college basketball season, especially the excitement of March Madness.
Chris was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and easygoing personality. He loved making people laugh, enjoyed teasing those around him, and truly never met a stranger. His warm heart and genuine kindness allowed him to connect with everyone he met. Above all, Chris treasured his family. He took great pride in being a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, and the love he shared with those closest to him will remain a lasting legacy.
In addition to his beloved wife, Maureen Hatfield, and his mother, Marjorie Hatfield, he is survived by his three children, Zachary Hatfield, Nicholas Hatfield, and Ashley Hatfield; six cherished grandchildren, Caden, Noah, Lyla, John, Jenna, and Lacey; two stepsons, Andrew (Nicole) Doyle and Jeff (Cheryl) Brice; five step grandchildren, Cameron, Bryson, Dylan, McKenna and Jasen; a sister, Stacey (Butch) Thompson; two brothers, Mark Hatfield and Matt Hatfield; his mother-in-law, Mary Forbes; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Barri, Diane (Mark) Hill, and Marianne (Ray) Whaley; two brothers-in-law, Michael (Terri) Hall and Patrick (Jodi) Hall; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 3000 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sherman Smith officiating.
