Wilma Schlueter

Wilma Lorraine Schlueter, 91, formerly of Godfrey, IL, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at her daughter’s residence in Ballwin, MO.

She was born July 31, 1926 in Alton, IL, the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Zelma I. (Winston) Paynter.

Mrs. Schlueter was a 1948 graduate of the Alton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and a retired Registered Nurse. She was a long time member of the Godfrey Baptist Church and loved to walk the Alton Square Mall, crochet, and play cards. She loved her family, friends and knew no stranger. Her true passion was to cook for her family until they were stuffed. She married Donald Wayne Schlueter in Alton on December 18, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2014.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law; Deborah Fehlig (James) of Ballwin, MO, a son and daughter-in-law; Jeffrey Schlueter (Carla) of Bloomsdale, MO. Three grandchildren; Christopher, and his wife Stacey, Molly and James Jr.; and two great grandchildren; Natalie and Noelle. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother; Robert E. Paynter.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Godfrey Baptist Church in Godfrey, IL. Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate. Burial will be private at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Godfrey Baptist Church as well as the New Piasa Chatauqua Church.
