Shirley Cloninger

Alton—Shirley Sue Cloninger, 86, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.  She was born Jan. 1, 1931 in Vandalia, IL, the only child of Helen Curry and Floyd W. Radcliffe.

She married C. Wayne Cloninger Sept. 14, 1952 in Wood River.  Both were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights.  He survives in Alton.

Sue was a 1949 graduate of Roxana High School.  In 1952, she graduated from Alton Memorial School of Nursing before she began her 42-year nursing career at Drs. W.V. Roberson and B.L. Roberson and Wood River Township Hospital.  She retired in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gregory Wayne Cloninger; and daughter, Nancy Lynn Walker Bobo.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Sue Theen and son-in-law John F. Theen of O’Fallon, IL; 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey Cloninger and Wife Laura of East Alton, Jeremy Stalcup and wife Irene of Norfolk, VA, Brian Cloninger of Moro, Kyle Walker and wife Tamara of Liberty, MO, Alicia Stalcup of St. Charles, MO, Ryan Theen and fiancé Jama Fabry of Collinsville, and Christopher Stalcup and wife Rachael of Cottage Hills, as well as 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Apr. 24 at Paynic Home for Funerals.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 25 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the church.
