Genevieve A. Phillip, 96, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center in Hardin, IL.
Genevieve was born on August 16, 1920 in Meppen the daughter of the late Mathias & Margaret (Droege) Kiel.
She married John A. Phillip in Granite City on May 4, 1946. He preceded her in death in October of 1997.
Genevieve was a nursing Army Cadet and a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Hospital in 1946. She started her career at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and also worked for the Granite City School District. Her love for nursing spanned over 40 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardin and a member of the Calhoun Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling and writing her poems.
Genevieve is survived by two daughters and son-in-law’s, Chris & Brad Patullo of Ballwin, MO and Mary & Eric Landrum of KY; five grandchildren, Tony Patullo, Brady Patullo, Sian Roberts, Phillip Roberts and Rhiannon Landrum; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six siblings, Leonard Kiel, Edward Kiel, Julia Zoll, Urban Kiel, Emma Seago and Buddy Kiel.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Gress, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Brussels, with a prayer service that evening.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Meppen with Fr. Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Meppen, IL.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church to help restore the windows in the church.
