Ruth O. Roth, 90, died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Integrity Health Care of Godfrey, formerly Blu-Fountain Manor. Born June 19, 1926 in Brussels, she was the daughter of Vernon and Barbara (Arnold) Osborne. She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1947 and was a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she loved working with the newborn babies and pediatrics until the hospital closed. She then worked for St. Anthony’s Hospital retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. On June 30, 1949 she married Francis E. Roth at St. Patrick’s Church in Alton. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2002. Surviving is a daughter, Christine Bachman (Wade) of Brighton, seven grandchildren, Torey Bielarczyk of Waukegan, IL, Emily Slayback (Jordan) of Godfrey, Allison Tucker (Andrew) of Godfrey, Daniel Hartzell of Brighton, Stephen Hartzell of Brighton, Zachary Bachman of Brighton and Colton Bachman of Brighton. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Nick Markadonis of Waukegan, IL, a brother, Clinton Osborne of Golden Eagle, IL and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Markadonis, a son-in-law, Ross Hartzell, a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marie Osborne, a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Phil Youngberg and a sister-in-law, Lillian Osborne. Mrs. Roth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose School Playground Fund or Marquette Catholic High School. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
