Barbara Lynn

East Alton |

Barbara Ann Lynn, Age 81, entered heavens gates on Sunday, January 2, 2022, after battling heart illness for several years. She was best known of late as the owner of Lynn’s Printing Company, but she is even better remembered by all those she touched throughout her entire life.

Barb was born to two loving parents, Robert and Mary (Huckabee) Smith on January 10, 1940, and grew up in the South Roxana area with her sister Mary Jeanne. Her parents taught them to give back the love and understanding they received from their parents, coaches, teachers, and church and Girl Scout leaders. Even as a child she volunteered by singing with her mother in the Spiritualaires Gospel Quartet.

She met the love of her life, Ray, while working at the army depot in Granite City, Illinois and they were married on December 5, 1959. Together they raised two children, Barb (Tom) Matson and Rick Lynn in Roxana IL. Barb worked for the post office as a mail carrier in Roxana. She served on the Roxana Homecoming Committee and was a Girl Scout leader. She held a leadership role in scouting and with the United Way. She attended Roxana Baptist Church. In 1983 she became the owner of Lynn’s Printing Company in Alton, IL, and was honored in the community as a Woman of Distinction, which was a humbling experience for her. Even though she lost her husband and best friend Ray far too early, she enjoyed her work at the printing company and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barb was especially grateful for those who called, visited, and cared for her in her final years including Dr. Bitar, the home nursing staff, and the loving staff at Integrity Health Care at Wood River, who loved on her every single day.

In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren, Bob (Leah) Davis, Steve (Leah) Davis, Danny Davis, Johnny Lynn, Jimmy Lynn, Jake Matson, Morgan (Kevin) Lange, and Macey (Landon) Happ, and her great-grandchildren Jack, Addy, Drew, Layla, and Vivienne, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her best snuggly furry friends Baby and Tinker. Barb was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Mary, her loving husband Ray, her sister and brother-in-law Jeanie and Butch Sutton, daughter-in-law, Melody Lynn, and so many more including her faithful furry friend Buddy.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 7th from 4 pm to 7 pm at Paynic Funeral Home. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 8th. Pastor Mike Adams will officiate. Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverbend Humane Society.

An online guestbook is available at www.paynicfh.com
