Alton's Carter Hanebutt.

ALTON - Alton High boys tennis player Carter Hanebutt, who will be a junior for the 2026-2027 school year, earned praise from coach Jesse Macias after playing No. 1 singles as a sophomore and continuing a run of All-Southwestern Conference honors in each of his first two high school seasons.

Hanebutt was an all-conference player as both a freshman and sophomore for Alton High. Macias said Hanebutt’s offseason work helped him rise into the top spot in the lineup.

“Carter put in a lot of work last summer to move up to number one,” Macias said. “He is at the courts probably more than any other player; as a coach, I love to see that.”

Macias said Hanebutt’s commitment has also influenced his teammates.

“That has been motivating other players to improve their off-season workouts,” Macias said.

Hanebutt also produced strong results while competing at the top of the lineup, according to his coach.

“He played well for us last season and got some good wins at one singles and doubles,” Coach Macias said.
