Alton's Lydia Schrumpf.ALTON - Lydia Schrumpf has been named The Eardley Agency, LLC, Female Athlete of the Month for the Alton Redbirds, following a junior tennis season in which she posted a 23-16 overall record and earned Southwestern Conference All-Conference and Academic All-Conference honors in 2025. She is expected to be the Redbirds' top singles player in 2026.

Schrumpf recorded notable wins last season over Belleville East and O’Fallon. Alton High girls tennis coach Jesse Macias said Schrumpf is expected to play a leading role for the team this year.

“Lydia is our top returning player from last year,” Macias said. “She goes out and grinds her opponents down. She is mentally tough and is a very seasoned player.”

Macias said the team counted on Schrumpf in key moments last season.

“We relied on her for big team points,” Macias said. “She had an incredible junior season and was named to the Southwestern Conference All-Conference Team and was Academic All-Conference.”

Macias said Schrumpf will provide leadership to his squad in 2026.

“She is definitely going to be our vocal leader because she has a lot of passion for the game and isn’t shy about helping her teammates," Coach Macias added.
